Qatar Airways Premier Lounge Bangkok: A Project Consultant Perspective

Qatar Airways Premier Lounge Bangkok: A Project Consultant Perspective

CREATOR’S were appointed as Project Consultants for the new build Qatar Airways Premier Lounge Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport and worked together with our partners SEA Consult acting as Cost Consultants, M&E and Kitchen Consultants, and Project & Construction Managers for the 700m2 airport lounge.

As project consultants for the new-built Qatar Airways Premier Lounge Bangkok, our role was to oversee and manage all aspects of the lounge’s construction and development project.

We worked closely with the design and construction teams to ensure that the project was completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This includes coordinating and managing all contractors and subcontractors involved in the project, as well as ensuring that all necessary airport authority permits and approvals are obtained.

We also were responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive project plan that included a timeline, budget, and key milestones. This plan served as a roadmap for the entire project team and helped us to identify potential issues or delays before they occur.

As project consultants, we were the primary point of contact between Qatar Airways and the project team. We provided regular updates on the project’s progress and worked with the team addressing any issues or concerns that did arise.

Our ultimate goal as project consultants for the Qatar Airways Premier Lounge Bangkok was to ensure that the project was completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while also ensuring that the lounge meets the needs and expectations of Qatar Airways and its customers.

This was a very challenging new-build fit-out that had a 6-month construction program started on 1 May 2018 despite many challenging design and logistics issues, and unexpectedly due to access pass restrictions, the project was successfully completed and handed over to the client on 1 September 2018.

The Evolving Role of Architects in Hotel Development

The Evolving Role of Architects in Hotel Development

The hospitality industry is evolving and that the role of the architect in adapting to the changing needs and preferences of travelers is becoming very important. There are also the many challenges and opportunities of the global context. As we enter 2023, hotel developers face new demands and expectations from guests, investors, regulators and society at large. Some of the key trends and innovations that will shape the future of hotel development in 2023 and beyond.

Sustainability and social responsibility

One of the most prominent trends in hotel development for 2023 is the increasing focus on sustainability and social responsibility. A Booking.com, showed that 81% of travelers think that sustainable travel is important. 70% said that they are more likely to book an accommodation that has implemented eco-friendly practices. Moreover, investors and regulators are also putting more pressure on hotel developers to comply with environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria and reduce their carbon footprint.
This trend requires hotel developers to rethink their design, construction, operation and maintenance strategies, and adopt more sustainable solutions in all aspects of their business.

Hotel developers achieve this by

  1. Implementing renewable energy sources, such as solar panels, wind turbines or geothermal systems.
  2. The Implementation of energy-efficient technologies, such as LED lighting, smart thermostats, motion sensors or low-flow fixtures, to reduce their energy consumption and costs.
  3. Incorporate green building materials, such as recycled or biodegradable materials, into their construction and renovation projects.
  4. Applying circular economy principles, such as reducing waste, reusing resources and recycling materials, to their operations and supply chains.
  5. Supporting local communities and social causes, such as hiring local staff, sourcing local products or services, or donating to charities or NGOs.

Motto by Hilton | via Hilton Hotels

Some examples of hotel developers that are leading the way in sustainability and social responsibility are:

  1. Hilton Worldwide, which has committed to cut its environmental footprint in half by 2030 and double its social impact investment.
  2. IHG Hotels & Resorts, which has launched a new brand called Voco that focuses on sustainability and wellness.
  3. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, which has partnered with Clean the World to recycle soap and other hygiene products for distribution to communities in need.

Digitalization and personalization

Another major trend in hotel development for 2023 is the growing demand for digitalization and personalization. Travelers today expect seamless, convenient and customized experiences throughout their journey, from booking to check-out. They also want more control over their stay, such as choosing their room type, amenities or services. To meet these expectations, hotel developers need to leverage digital technologies and data analytics to enhance their guest experience and loyalty.

Some of the ways that hotel developers can achieve this are:

  1. By offering online booking platforms, mobile apps or chatbots that allow guests to easily book, modify or cancel their reservations, check-in or check-out remotely, or access information or assistance at any time.
  2. Providing smart rooms or devices that enable guests to adjust the temperature, lighting or entertainment options according to their preferences, or access personalised recommendations or offers based on their profile or behaviour.
  3. Utilising artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML) to analyze guest data and feedback, and optimize their revenue management, marketing or operations strategies accordingly.
Creating loyalty programs or partnerships that reward guests for their repeat bookings or referrals, or offer them exclusive benefits or discounts from other brands or services.

CitizenM Room | Via CitizenM

Some examples of hotel developers that are leading the way in digitalisation and personalisation are:

  1. Marriott International, which has launched a new app called Marriott Bonvoy that allows guests to access a range of features and benefits across its portfolio of brands.
  2. Accor Hotels, which has introduced a new concept called Flying Nest that offers mobile modular accommodation units that can be customized and transported to different locations.
  3. CitizenM Hotels, which has developed a cloud-based platform called Ambassadors that enables its staff to provide personalized service and support to guests from anywhere.

Experience and innovation

A third important trend in hotel development for 2023 is the rising importance of experience and innovation. Nowadays it’s a fact that travelers are looking for more than just a place to sleep. They also want to have memorable experiences that enrich their lives. They want to be surprised and delighted by new concepts or features that differentiate one hotel from another. To attract and retain these travelers, hotel developers need to create unique value propositions that offer more than just functionality or comfort.

Some of the ways that hotel developers can achieve this are:

  1. Designing distinctive themes or styles that reflect the local culture, history or identity of the destination or property.
  2. Offering diverse facilities or activities that cater to different interests or needs, such as wellness, entertainment, education or adventure.
  3. Incorporating art or creativity into their spaces or services, such as displaying artworks, hosting exhibitions or events, or inviting artists or performers to collaborate or interact with guests.
  4. Experimenting with new technologies or materials that enhance the functionality or aesthetics of their properties, such as robotics, biometrics or 3D printing.

21c Museum Gallery | via 21c Museum Hotels

Some examples of hotel developers that are leading the way in experience and innovation are:

  1. 21C Museum Hotel, which combines a boutique hotel with a contemporary art museum that features rotating exhibitions and installations.
  2. Treehotel, which offers a collection of unique treehouses that blend into the natural environment and offer stunning views of the forest and river.
  3. Yotel, which uses robotic technology to provide automated check-in and luggage storage services, as well as adjustable smart beds that transform into sofas.

To summarise

Hotel development in 2023 will be driven by three main trends: sustainability and social responsibility, digitalization and personalization, and experience and innovation. Hotel developers need to adopt new strategies and solutions that will enable them to meet the changing needs and preferences of travelers. They have to explore the future challenges and opportunities of the global context. If properly done, the hotel developers are able to create value for their guests, investors, employees and society at large.

De Stijl-Inspired Hotels, Resorts & Residences: Design Inspirations

De Stijl-Inspired Hotels, Resorts & Residences: Design Inspirations

Today we are discussing De Stijl-Inspired hotels, resorts & residences. If you are a design enthusiast or simply appreciate art and architecture, you may have come across the influential art movement known as De Stijl. De Stijl, which means “The Style” in Dutch, was founded in 1917 by a group of artists and architects who advocated for a pure and abstract style of art based on geometric forms and primary colours.

They believed that art could be a means of social and spiritual transformation, and they applied their principles to various media, including painting, sculpture, architecture, furniture, typography and more. De Stijl sought to create a universal visual language through a reduction of form and colour. De Stijl has left an indelible mark on the world of design.

Are you looking for a unique and stylish getaway this weekend? If you love art and design, you might want to check out these amazing hotels, resorts and residences that are inspired by De Stijl, the Dutch art movement that revolutionized modern aesthetics. Some of the most iconic examples of De Stijl architecture are the Rietveld Schröder House in Utrecht, the Netherlands, designed by Gerrit Rietveld in 1924, and the Aubette dance hall in Strasbourg, France, decorated by Theo van Doesburg, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Jean Arp in 1929. These buildings feature dynamic compositions of rectangular planes, grids of windows, and splashes of red, yellow and blue.

These are just some of the amazing places where you can enjoy De Stijl-inspired design and architecture. Whether you want to relax, explore or learn more about this fascinating art movement, you will surely find something that suits your taste and budget. So don’t wait any longer and book your weekend trip today!

The Mondrian South Beach Hotel in Miami, Florida, USA. Located in the vibrant South Beach area, The Mondrian is a luxurious hotel inspired by the works of Dutch painter Piet Mondrian, one of the key figures of the De Stijl movement. The hotel’s interiors feature bold primary colours, minimalist furniture, and geometric patterns that pay homage to Mondrian’s iconic compositions. From the moment you step into the lobby, you are immersed in a world of art and design that reflects the principles of De Stijl. The Mondrian offers a unique and stylish experience for design enthusiasts and art lovers alike. The hotel features a striking black-and-white exterior with yellow accents, a whimsical lobby with oversized furniture and colourful murals, and spacious rooms with stunning views of the bay and the city. The hotel also has a pool, a spa, a restaurant and a nightclub.

– The Art’otel Amsterdam in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. This contemporary hotel is located in the heart of Amsterdam, near the Central Station and the Anne Frank House. The hotel showcases the works of Atelier Van Lieshout, a Dutch artist collective that explores themes of utopia, dystopia and social critique. The hotel also has a gallery, a library, a lounge, a restaurant and a bar.

– The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in Dessau, Germany. This is not exactly a hotel, but rather a historic site where you can book a room in one of the original studio buildings of the Bauhaus School, which was closely related to De Stijl. The Bauhaus School was founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius as an avant-garde institution that combined art, design and architecture. The studio building features minimalist rooms with steel-frame furniture and balconies overlooking the courtyard. The site also has a museum, a workshop, a café and a shop.
– The Villa Noailles in Hyères, France. This is a stunning example of modernist architecture designed by Robert Mallet-Stevens in 1923 for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, who were patrons of the arts and friends of many De Stijl artists. The villa has a cubic shape with terraces, gardens and pools. It also hosts various cultural events throughout the year, such as exhibitions, concerts and festivals.
– The Park Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. This luxury hotel offers an artistic twist: each room is decorated by a different Japanese artist with their own style and theme. Some of the rooms that are influenced by De Stijl are: “Lattice” by Aki Narita, which features a geometric pattern of black lines and colourful squares; “Sumo” by Hiroyuki Kimura, which depicts two sumo wrestlers in red and blue; and “Geometric” by Ryosuke Yasumoto, which creates an optical illusion with black-and-white shapes.
– Rietveld Cottage, Utrecht, the Netherlands: Designed by renowned architect Gerrit Rietveld, the Rietveld Cottage in Utrecht, Netherlands, is a prime example of De Stijl architecture. Rietveld, a prominent member of the De Stijl movement, designed the cottage as a weekend retreat for his family. The exterior of the cottage showcases a composition of rectangular volumes, coloured in the iconic De Stijl palette of red, blue, yellow, black, and white. The interior follows the movement’s principles of simplicity, functionality, and a reduction of form. The Rietveld Cottage stands as a testament to the enduring influence of De Stijl in architecture and is a source of inspiration for weekend retreats.

– Van Doesburg House, Meudon, France: The Van Doesburg House, located in Meudon, France, is a significant architectural landmark that exemplifies De Stijl principles. Designed by Dutch artist and architect Theo van Doesburg, the house features a striking composition of intersecting planes and primary colours. The interior spaces are characterized by open floor plans, minimalist furnishings, and a seamless integration of art and design. Visiting the Van Doesburg House allows you to immerse yourself in the world of De Stijl and gain a deeper appreciation for its lasting impact on modern design.
– De Stijl Villa, Amersfoort, the Netherlands: Situated in the birthplace of the De Stijl movement, the De Stijl Villa in Amersfoort, Netherlands, is a contemporary residence that draws inspiration from the movement’s principles. The villa’s design incorporates clean lines, geometric shapes, and a colour palette reminiscent of De Stijl’s artworks. It showcases how De Stijl can be reinterpreted in a modern context, offering a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. Staying at the De Stijl Villa allows guests to experience the essence of De Stijl while enjoying modern comforts and amenities. The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed, incorporating elements of minimalism and functionality, creating a serene and visually appealing environment.
– Mondrian House, Amsterdam, the Netherlands: The Mondrian House in Amsterdam is a museum and guesthouse dedicated to the life and works of Piet Mondrian. The house itself is an architectural gem, designed in the spirit of De Stijl. Visitors can explore the museum’s collection of Mondrian’s paintings and furniture designs, gaining insights into the artist’s creative process and his influence on the De Stijl movement. The guesthouse provides an opportunity to stay in a space inspired by Mondrian’s iconic style, immersing yourself in the world of De Stijl during your weekend getaway.

Mondriaan House Amsterdam | via vice.com

– Van Der Rohe Hotel, Barcelona, Spain: While not directly associated with the De Stijl movement, the Van Der Rohe Hotel in Barcelona draws inspiration from the principles of modernism, which influenced De Stijl. The hotel’s architecture and interior design embrace clean lines, open spaces, and a minimalist aesthetic. The use of primary colours and geometric shapes pays homage to the De Stijl movement and creates a harmonious and visually captivating environment. Staying at the Van Der Rohe Hotel offers a contemporary take on the design inspirations derived from De Stijl.

In conclusion, De Stijl-inspired hotels, resorts, and residences provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of this influential art movement. Whether you choose to stay in a hotel showcasing De Stijl-inspired interiors or visit architectural landmarks designed by prominent De Stijl artists, you can gain a deeper appreciation for the movement’s principles of simplicity, abstraction, and a reduction of form and colour. These design inspirations can serve as a weekend getaway idea for design enthusiasts, art lovers, or anyone seeking a unique and visually stimulating experience.
